Alternative to renting. RV living and why we chose to.

Have you heard of RV living? Yes I mean the one where you live in an RV or motor home FULL time. Sounds crazy doesn't it? Well I am here to personally tell you why we chose to live in our RV while building our home.

Why did we chose to live in our RV while we built our home here in Utah? Honestly it was the lower monthly cost of it and the ability to travel with our home on wheels. We lived in several RV resorts from base living on HAFB here in Utah to ones closer to the canyon in South Weber. The other one I won't mention it was not the nicest place and we were there only two days.

It would surprise almost everyone we told we were living in our toy hauler. However the amount of others doing the same thing is something that will surprise you more. Nearly every long term RV resort was fully booked with long term stays. We were on waiting lists to get into a few different ones. A lot of the other longer term residents of each location were in the same situation we were in. They were either building a home or waiting to buy one. A lot were also here working with larger companies traveling from state to state. Brining their families with them to each new location for a unique adventure. Some families just live in their RV or motor home and travel full time.

We chose to live in ours because the cost of living was significantly cheaper than renting a home. We paid $700-$850 a month depending on which location we were at. Rent for an apartment is over $1,200 a month and for a home is over $2,000 a month. If you stay long term some RV resorts do charge you electric which is around $50 a month. However if you are short term you do not pay for utilities. You have everything you may need just in a smaller space depending on the size of RV or motor home you choose to have. A lot of the newer ones have so many amenities to make RV living easy and stress free. Another plus is if you are able you can travel the country from one RV resort to another. Many new ones are opening up as well.

One of the biggest pros for us was how much closer our little family got. We have made some amazing friends and met people from all over the country and heard their stories. It is simply something worth thinking about.

If you are wanting to sell but are not ready to rent or buy this is a great alternative and there are so many families and people living the RV life. Just do a quick social media search and you can be inspired to do it too. Building a home is not a quick thing and having the flexibility with money helped us substantially by having a lower cost of living.
