How to decorate on a budget

Really not everyone can afford to spend thousands on beautiful decorations to revamp a room or the entire home. As much as we would love to its hard to do for most. In this article we will go over different ways to decorate or revamp your home beautifully on a budget.

Now I am not talking about making things cheap chic or anything of this nature. I am talking about making it your own and not having to spend top dollar doing so. You can make your home look elegant and add a spark of your own charm to it. Making small improvements throughout your home can make a world of a difference. I have read several articles regarding decorating on a budget and I wanted to talk about the most common items each article discussed.

Now its time to take a look at your home or the specific space you want to ramp up and make it feel new and fresh. What are some of the things you want to keep and some you want to change? Got it written down in a note on your phone or paper? Great! Now lets start and remember this is YOUR home so make it a space that you love.

Paint

Now I am not talking about painting your entire house because yes that is pricey, unless you really want to then go for it. I am talking going to talk about a few other options. Each room in your home is a different room, now you need to decide are you the type of person who loves having several themes in your home or one that continues across the entire home. Painting one wall can change an entire feel to a room. Painting your cabinets, dressers, side tables, coffee table, chairs, or even mirror frames. Giving a more dramatic look can help change the entire feel of a room. If you are really living on the wild side or design try painting your doors, door trim, and baseboard a bold color.

Wall panel designs

Are you a DIY type of person? Then this may be the option for you. Right now it is instyle to do wall panels in different designs. I have seen this done with tile, laminate, wood trim, MDF board, old barn wood, and shiplap. It really comes down to the type of wall you want and the design. Most of the time you will see this more in the entrances to the home, walls around or under the stairs, and bedrooms. One thing I do recommend is make sure you caulk to have a cleaner look to whatever you choose for any gaps that are unwanted or do not go with the design.

Wall Paper & Wall Stickers

Okay okay... I know this one is not for everyone but I had to throw this one in here for those who love it. You can find some really beautiful hand painted designs and use it on a wall or two. More and more I am seeing this is in nurseries and kids rooms. Amazon has some really great nature stickers for kids rooms and playrooms. Some of the hand painted wall papers are a great way to turn any room into a space that will give you the wow factor. I have found some forest stickers with elk, deer, and different types of trees that I loved on Amazon. I did put one on my daughters bedroom wall and she loved it. They are very easy to take off and usually don't damage the wall. Wallpaper can at times be very hard to take off so if you do decide to go this route make sure its something you will love incase its a pain to take off down the road.

Organizing

Organizing and simplifying a space can make a huge difference. You can get glassware and label it with different types of labels that suit your design style. Changing out pottery with your plants and decor to give a different feel to the space. Simplifying the space by decluttering can give a more open and airy feel. At times having too much in one space can make it feel overcrowded and overwhelming to you and guests. We all have things in our home that sit there and lose their value to us. Over time we tend to throw those items in a drawer or back of a closet. Get those items and see if doing something as simple as refurbishing them can change it up, giving it away, tossing it, or even donating it so it isn't just sitting there taking up space.

Faucets

There are some very neat faucet's out there now days for your kitchen, laundry, and bathrooms. With many different designs, fancy upgrades, and colors. Changing one, a few, or all of them to ones that are more bold, color change, and style can dramatically make a difference. Not only do the news ones out there have amazing features they cost a lot. If you like the style of one but its $2,000 then look for one like it that doesn't have alexa tied to it or the waving motion sensors in it. This will not only save you hundreds it can save you thousands.

Thrift shops, antique shops, & Estate Sales

I have one friend who lives for these and honestly she has found some great finds that really set her home apart from others. Going to these does not mean you will be getting broken or cheap looking items. You can honestly find some very expensive items for a great price that is more affordable. Here in Utah, Idaho, and parts of Wyoming check on KSL. If you check the classifieds like you do social media you can get some great finds for a good price. Even new furniture that someone did not like and wants to resell it without evening using it.

Plants

Did you think I wouldn't put this section in here? Of course I would! Because getting real or fake plants can change a space and it doesn't cost you an arm and a leg. Big or small plants putting them in the corner, on a table, counter top, book shelf or outside your door. Open up the blinds and let them grow! Unless their fake... Then enjoy the sunshine and the pop of color. Costco and the At Home Store have a great selection of plants several times a year.

Using What You Got

Taking items from around your home and placing them in different areas can be a good option. Even mixing up different items with each other can change your space. Moving around furniture is a big one I think some overlook. Moving a couch or two can make the flow of the room completely feel new. Even doing this in your bedroom can make it feel new and more inviting.

I hope this article gave you some ideas for your next home project to revamp a space you have wanted to for awhile. Redoing a space doesn't have to cost you a lot of money to make it feel new. Just remember as I said before make it your own, do it in a way that makes you feel at home and happy. It is your space and it should be one you look forward to coming home to each and everyday.
