Utah is such a beautiful state. It offers a big variety of things for everyone. Between the great outdoors and the city life. There is something for everyone with every season change. Today we are talking about fall which is my favorite season. I am a big outdoorsy gal, I love everything about the outdoors. Hiking, hunting, camping, boating you name it. I wanted to write this article about things you can do for fun during this time of the year. I will have links at the end of this article for you to have more information about the information about each item I mention.

One big change we see during the fall season is the changing of the trees and other plants. It is so beautiful and breath taking. It is also the season I like to call sweater weather, which lets be honest I am all for wearing a hoodie all year if I could. I enjoy the colder weather. Keep reading for fall time activity ideas here in Utah.

If you are someone who loves being in our mountains like me. Lets talk about some great hiking trails here in Utah and some other fun outdoor activities you can enjoy. From Northern Utah down to the southern Utah here are 8 hiking trails that are top rated by the state of Utah. Depending on your abilities make sure you check the different difficulty trail ratings to ensure you have a safe and fun hike.

  1. Mountain Oasis | Cascade Springs | Alpine Loop Backway| Near Provo and Heber

  2. One Tree Hill | Lakeshore National Recreational Train | Fish Lake Scenic Byway | Near Capitol Reef National Park

  3. Above the Red Rock | Fish Creek Reservoir ( Great Western Trail) | All-American Road: Scenic Byway 12 | Between Boulder, Utah and Capitol Reef National Park

  4. Still Untamed | Skyline Trail/Great Ogden Divide | Near Ogden

  5. A Sure Thing | Wind Cave Hike | Logan Canyon National Scenic Byway

  6. Green River/ Red Canyon | Little Hole National Scenic Trail | Near Flaming Gorge–Uintas National Scenic Byway

  7. Reach a New Plateau | Aspen Mirror Lake Hike | Markagunt High Plateau Scenic Byway (S.R. 14) | Near Cedar City and Zion National Park

  8. Metro Mountain | Big and Little Cottonwood Canyon Scenic Byways (S.R. 190, 210) | Near Salt Lake City

My husband, our kids and I spend most of our time during the fall hunting, camping, and hiking in the north eastern part of the state. We love the Flaming Gorge area, which I think is one of the best places to explore. You have some of the most available public land to adventure to along with several back packing trails and lakes. If you enjoy riding in your OTV you will enjoy this area. In the late part of August and September you can see the kokanee salmon spawn in some of the streams near Flaming Gorge. Wild Life officers will be available to teach you about the salmon. Don't forget to always tell someone where you will be hiking, when you will leave, and when you will return. This way if something happens along the way you will have someone know where to send help. This is just something I have learned over the years hunting. I highly recommend getting the onX app to track your hikes, download maps for offline use, and to know where the trails are. I do have this linked below. Remember to always be aware of your surroundings, stay safe and have fun!
